Resident Evil 2 Review: Storyline
Resident Evil has always been famous for its legendary setting, Raccoon City, so in Resident Evil 2, the setting is still taken in the same city. Since this remake aims to maintain the authenticity of Resident Evil released in 1998, Resident Evil 2 this time also uses a time setting in September 1998. At that time, a large number of townspeople were infected with the T-virus, an epidemic of biological weapons that has changed the townspeople become terrible zombies. The T-Virus is produced by the Umbrella Corporation.
The game starts when Leon S. Kennedy, a police officer, meets Claire Redfield, a student, at a petrol station in an out of town area. Claire said that she was searching for her brother, Chris. The two of them eventually split up after a car accident and met again at the police department in town. Unfortunately, the building is already inhabited by a number of zombies and terrible monsters. Leon and Claire are having a hard time meeting again due to the annoying presence of these monsters. Therefore, Leon and Claire finally decided to use a method to get out of the city. There are two different scenarios.
In Claire’s version of the scenario, Claire met a girl who was tormented by zombies and monsters constantly. The girl named Sherry and Claire found him in Machinery. However, then Sherry was kidnapped by a police chief, Brian Irons, and kept in an orphanage. Irons makes an offer to Claire to exchange Sherry with the pendant that Claire dropped, Claire finally agrees, because if not, Sherry will be killed.
Long story short, when Sherry and Claire tried to escape, Claire collapsed and Sherry had to leave her. Claire is finally found by Sherry’s mother, Annette. Annette says that the creature after Sherry is Sherry’s father, namely William. William wanted to sell the G-Virus to the United States military, but William was shot dead. However, William had previously injected himself with the G-Virus, unfortunately a mouse was infected with the T-Virus and eventually the infection spread throughout Raccoon City. Long story short, the G-Virus encourages William to infect Sherry, he had recovered but eventually died. William mutates into a very large monster, and Claire manages to fight him while the train is about to leave, and he finds Leon there.
Meanwhile, in Leon’s scenario, he survived because he was helped by an FBI agent, Ada Wong. They meet the Irons prisoner, Ben, who is killed by a monster. Leon and Ada finally escaped. Leon promises to help Ada get the G-Virus sample. At Birkin’s lab, Leon finally manages to get a sample, but William gets in his way. He attacked Leon.
However, it turns out that Annette tells her that Ada intends to do a viral sale for the person offering the highest price. There was a battle between Annette-Leon-Ada, in which Ada fell into a ravine, but apparently she survived and threw a rocket launcher at Leon when she was ambushed by monsters. Leon uses it to destroy the monster, then he gets on the train and meets Claire and Sherry.
Finally, Leon, Sherry, and Claire meet again, although William mutates and attacks the train. Leon and Claire were almost killed, but in the end William was killed. They finally promised to continue fighting Umbrella.

Resident Evil 2 Review: Gameplay
Unlike the original version of RE2 in 1998, the RE2 remake released in 2019 gives players the appearance of the shooter from a third-person perspective, namely with an over the shoulder concept similar to Resident Evil 4. Meanwhile, RE2 in 1998 used a camera angle made permanent.
In this RE2 remake, the difficulty mode is made different from the original in standard mode. In addition, there is also an automatic inventory display that allows gamers to be able to store whatever they want in a safe place. In Hardcore difficulty mode, you later have to collect and use a limited number of ink ribbons to save your progress in the game.
You will also be able to collect various items that will help you to escape and survive while you are on your way to the police station. For example, you can mix gun powder and herbs to make ammunition items as well as healing items, which obviously you really need to survive in the game. The items you get can also be used for hints or thrown away when you’re done using them.
The difficulty mode in this game has a huge effect on battle performance. If you use the standard difficulty level, you will be able to recover your health faster, allow you to get more help, and get weaker enemies. If you’re on the hardcore difficulty level, you’re more likely to get stronger enemies and a low ammo supply. In addition, the variety of battles really depends on the players who are fighting. Usually, your enemies will arrive after you are seen, but you can kill them or you can paralyze them to survive. There are certain enemies to fight, not avoid, so get to know your enemy.
You can customize the weapons that you can get along the way. In addition, you can also replace or equip parts of the weapon so that the performance of your weapon can be maximized. You are advised to equip your weapons with additional weapons, for example grenades and knives.
The Tyrant Monster sent by Umbrella will kill every player it meets. Even so, Tyrant cannot be killed, but can be slowed down. You can get as far as possible from the Tyrant to survive. You can choose to play Leon S. Kennedy or Claire. The main story will depend on your own choice, which will later experience a variety of variations, from subplots, areas that can be entered, items, weapons, to the peak battle.

Resident Evil 2 Review: Development
In 1998, the original Resident Evil 2 was released to be played on PS, then the following year it was released for versions of Nintendo 64 and Microsoft Windows. After that, it was released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 and in 2003, it was released for the Nintendo GameCube. In 2015, finally Cacpcom announced to make Resident Evil 2 remake.
Since the original RE2 has been around for years and there were probably a few things that weren’t quite right now, the development team ended up changing a number of the character designs to make them more suitable. Leon who used to wear large shoulder pads, is not anymore. Then, Ada Wong didn’t wear a red dress, instead she was replaced by a raincoat and black glasses. However, the development team focused more on the crowded atmosphere they wanted to present, where the real action of the horror atmosphere could be experienced by the players.
Just like Resident Evil 7, the remake of Resident Evil 2 is made using the RE Engine. This allows the company to create more modern gameplay.
Resident Evil 2: Reception
Resident Evil 2 gained universal recognition for the PS4 and Xbox One, and Metacritic provided generally favorable reviews for the PC version.
Some critics have commented that the remake of Resident Evil 2 has drawn players into a number of rushed battles in a dark setting. This makes RE2 look great and fun. This game also accurately describes the original game which was released in 1998. Others also claim that almost everything remake in Resident Evil 2 is a very good thing.
There are still some minor flaws, but these flaws are understandable and do not have a fatal effect on the game. Bevause, the sales itself is so awesome. In its first week of sales, Resident Evil 2 sold three million copies worldwide and eventually rose a million in a month. This earned Resident Evil 2 the title of being the second largest Capcorn launch on Steam, after the game Monster Hunter: World was launched in 2018. In fact, in March 2020, this game has sold more than 7.2 million copies worldwide.
